Why Volunteer?

The Oxjam Takeover couldn’t happen without its volunteers. In the fast paced living in modern society, sometimes it can seem like there is simply no time to volunteer but the benefits of donating your time is unprecedented.

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it is giving back to the community or helping a cause they care about. For others it offers the chance to develop new skills or build on existing knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, it is an experience that is both challenging and rewarding.
Below are some of the reasons that people volunteer;
  •       Make a difference to someone’s life
  •     Help those who are less fortunate and give them a voice
  •     Feel valued and part of a team
  •     Spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle
  •     Gain confidence and self esteem

Volunteering can also be a route into employment and a chance to try something new which could lead to a career change. It can be a way of;

  •     Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  •     Developing existing skills and knowledge
  •     Enhancing a CV
  •     Improving your employment prospects
  •     Gaining an accreditation
  •     Using one’s professional skills and knowledge to benefit others (i.e. Pro bono work)

Volunteering also has great social benefits which include meeting new and different types of people from various backgrounds, a chance to network and be a part of a local community.

The Oxjam Takeover team are made up of volunteers but we can’t do it alone, we need individuals like you to donate as much or as little time as you can to raise funds and awareness for Oxfam.

Oxjam is the largest UK music festival and is a great way to get involved with the local musical talent that Cambridge has to offer. From handing out wristbands, to sound engineers there is great volunteering opportunities running up to and including the main event.
