We here at Oxjam Cambridge Takeover are delighted to
announce our partnership with shoes and glasses giant TOMS to raise money for
Oxfam.
There’s more to TOMS then just great
fashion. In 2006, American traveller Blake Mycoskie befriended children from a
village in Argentina, soon discovering they had no shoes to protect their feet.
Compelled to help, he started TOMS; a company dedicated to match every pair of
shoes purchased with a new pair of shoes donated to a child in need – One for
One.
Building on the original success of One for One, TOMS soon
realised that they could help with other basic needs. Hence the launch of
eyewear, for every pair purchased, a new pair is donated to a child in need.
Now TOMS have given 10 million pairs of shoes and give in
over 60 countries. Since their launch in 2011, 150,000 have had their sight
restored through purchases of TOMS Eyewear. They also have annual events such
as One Day Without Shoes and World Sight Days, raising awareness for the global
issues of poverty and visual impairment.
Because TOMS Works Better As a Pair
Oxjam Cambridge is one of the five lucky takeover teams to
be partnered up with TOMS. Teams were required to apply for this unique
opportunity via a pitch to them describing why TOMS should get involved with
our event.
